I love playing Texas Hold ‘Em. While playing with a group of friends, we would occasionally forget which hands beat what. I created a reference sheet for use during games, however it became obvious when someone had a good hand they’d reached for the reference sheet.
When tasked with redesigning a deck of playing cards in design school, I decided to play with the idea of building a reference sheet right within the card. I designed a deck of Texas Hold ‘Em playing cards where each card contains helpful hints for what beats what in the game of Texas Hold ‘Em.
The process involved tracing, inking, and scanning numbers, letters, and artwork for a more hand-sketched typographic look.
